How hard is it to replace the thermostat on a 1999 Saab 9-3?

My saab just started running really hot last night. Temp went all the way up, then back down 5 min later, then back up again. Does this sound like the thermostat? And how difficult is it to replace? Thanks!

This issue sounds like a restriction, which could be the thermostat or a blockage in the system. Hopefully you have not done damage to the cylinder head/ or gasket.

The thermostat is not exceptionally hard to replace, but is a little difficult
